Tournament Types

What types of tournaments are available?

QuinPick supports two main tournament formats:

  • Group Stage Tournaments (like FIFA World Cup): Predict exact scores for group matches. Earn 3 points for perfect score predictions, 2 points for correct winner + goal difference, 1 point for correct winner only.
  • Bracket Tournaments (like March Madness): Pick winners in single-elimination format. Points increase exponentially each round: Round 1 = 1 pt, Round 2 = 2 pts, Round 3 = 4 pts, Round 4 = 8 pts, etc.

Can I participate in multiple tournaments?

Yes! You can join as many tournaments as you like. Each tournament has its own leaderboard, so you can compete separately in different competitions.

Making Predictions

When can I make predictions?

You can make or edit predictions anytime before a match starts. Once a match kicks off, predictions are locked and cannot be changed.

Can I edit my predictions?

Yes! You can change your predictions as many times as you want before the match starts. Your latest submission will be counted.

What happens if I miss some matches?

No problem! You don't have to predict every match. You'll simply earn 0 points for matches you didn't predict. Make predictions for as many or as few matches as you like.

Do I need to predict all matches at once?

No. You can make predictions at your own pace. Come back anytime to add more predictions or update existing ones (before matches start).

Scoring System

How does scoring work for group tournaments?

For group stage matches (like World Cup), you predict exact scores:

  • 3 points: Perfect match (correct score for both teams)
  • 2 points: Correct winner + correct goal difference
  • 1 point: Correct winner only
  • 0 points: Incorrect prediction

Example: If you predict 2-1 and the actual result is 3-2, you get 2 points (correct winner + correct goal difference of 1).

How does scoring work for bracket tournaments?

For bracket tournaments (like March Madness), you pick the winner of each match. Points increase exponentially each round using the formula 2^(round-1):

  • Round 1: 1 point per correct pick
  • Round 2: 2 points per correct pick
  • Round 3: 4 points per correct pick
  • Round 4: 8 points per correct pick
  • Round 5: 16 points per correct pick
  • Round 6 (Championship): 32 points per correct pick

A perfect 64-team bracket earns a maximum of 192 points.

When are points calculated?

Points are calculated immediately when match results are entered by an administrator. You'll see your updated score as soon as the results are official.

Leaderboard

How does the leaderboard work?

Each tournament has its own leaderboard showing all participants ranked by total points. The leaderboard updates automatically as match results come in and points are calculated.

Is there a global leaderboard?

Yes! There's a global leaderboard that shows rankings across all tournaments. You can access it from the main navigation menu.

Can I see other users' predictions?

Currently, you can only see your own predictions. We keep everyone's picks private to maintain competitive integrity. You'll only see how others are doing via the leaderboard rankings.
